Oct 08, 2014 (newstodate): The Belarus state is mulling plans for setting up a new airline to compete with Belavia.
The new carrier will be formed around the nucleus of the existing airline Grodno Airlines that is active in cargo, agricultural and charter operations with a fleet of AN-30, AN-32 and AN-2 aircraft.
A business plan is currently being developed for approval by the Belarus Ministry of Transport and Communications, and if plans are carried through, Grodno Airlines will have a new name and a new aircraft fleet.
Grodno Airlines was last year changed from a purely state-owned company to a joint-stock company allowing for new investors to join in ownership.
The country's current national carrier is Belavia that operates a fleet comprising 26 aircraft on a network spanning 40 destinations in Europe and Asia.
