Oct 15, 2014 (newstodate): Estonian Air is seeing its passenger volumes growing so far into H2, 2014.
In September the carrier transported a total of 51 960 passengers, up 3.7 percent, y-o-y, while the number of flights grew by 12.4 percent which meant a lower seat occupancy rate.
In the first nine months of this year the number of passengers were still down by 1.9 percent, y-o-y, but expectations are that the rise in the latter part of 2014 will outweigh the drop in passengers during the first half of the year.
Still, Estonian Air is also threatened by the effects from the Ukrainian/Russian crisis and increasing competition on its routes.
The airline operates regular routes to Stockholm (Arlanda and Bromma), Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Brussels, Oslo, Moscow, Munich, St Petersburg, Kiev, Vilnius and Trondheim.
In addition, till end of October Estonian Air flies to Berlin, from
December 2014 to March 2015 to Munich, and from April to November 2015 to Milan.
Besides the carrier is also throwing in its excess capacity in the ad-hoc charter markets as well as aiming at entering the Swedish market for domestic services from 2015.
Still pending is the outcome of the ongoing EU probe into alleged state aids for Estonian Air, probably to be expected by year-end or early 2015, spelling life or death to the airline.
