Oct 02, 2014 (newstodate): A sustained increase in export shipments grew cargo volumes through Denmark's Billund Airport by 5.1 percent, y-o-y, in September 2014.
A total of 5,941 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, including 3,993 tonnes of exports, up 33.9 percent, and 1,848 tonnes of imports that still lagged behind by 27 percent, y-o-y.
During January-September 2014 the airport has thus handled a total of 47,689 tonnes of cargo, an increase by only 0.7 percent.
Totals include 29,798 tonnes of exports, up 13.5 percent, and 17,891 tonnes of imports that are down 15.2 percent compared to last year.
Next month's statistics may show a different picture comparing volumes in 2013 and 2014 as DHL Aviation stopped its flights since April 6, 2010, between Leipzig and Billund, calling instead at the airport only on the return flights from Orebro, in Sweden, to load export shipments on the flight back to Leipzig.
The change caused an immediate decline in import volumes at Billund Airport, still reflecting on this year's September statistics.
