Oct 15, 2014 (newstodate): Latest statistics from Denmark's Copenhagen Airport show a decline in total cargo volumes by 2.9 percent,y-o-y, during January-May 2014, excluding volumes on integrators.
A total of 126,820 tonnes of cargo was reported, and while cargo on freighters declined by 21.7 percent, y-o-y, to 16,782 tonnes, cargo in passenger aircraft belly holds increased by 11.3 percent, to 38,338 tonnes.
-The decline in cargo on all-cargo aircraft seems to reflect a general trend in the global market where cargo is increasingly carried by passenger aircraft offering much cargo capacity, high frequencies and short lead-times, says Lars Korup, Copenhagen Airport.
-We have also seen Air China closing down freighter operations at Copenhagen Airport while other carriers including China Cargo Airlines and Korean Air have reduced frequencies.
-On the other hand, we are highly encouraged by the significant rise in belly cargo boding well for the continued increase in cargo through the airport, Mr Korup says.
During the period, mail volumes also grew by 2.6 percent to 8,269 tonnes.
Trucked cargo, however, declined during the period by 7.3 percent, to 53,431 tonnes.
