Oct 29, 2014 (newstodate): While cargo in passenger aircraft belly-holds is increasing at Denmark's Copenhagen Airport, trucked cargo volumes are declining during the first five months of this year, according to the latest statistics.
Thus, belly cargo was up by 11.3 percent, y-o-y, to 48,338 tonnes, while trucked cargo dropped 7.3 percent to 53,431 tonnes.
Excluding integrator traffic, cargo on freighters was also down by 21.7 percent during the period, to 16,782 tonnes.
Combined, the data seem to indicate that the sustained rise in passenger aircraft operations is producing an increasing volume of belly-hold capacity absorbing cargo earlier trucked to and from the airport, also rendering freighter operations less attractive and, not least, less profitable.
