Oct 31, 2014 (newstodate): The Faroe Islands' carrier Atlantic Airways has now finalized details in its Spring 2015 schedule covering its NORTH strategy.
The carrier will thus offer flights from Vagar Airport to Edinburgh instead of Aberdeen that was earlier among the destinations on the proposed routes to the Faroes' most immediate neighbors.
The first part of the NORTH routes was launched in September 2014 with two new weekly departures to Norway in addition to the current flights to Iceland.
The new NORTH timetable takes effect by the end of March 2015, offering three weekly flights to Iceland, four weekly flights to Norway and two weekly flights to Edinburgh.
The NORTH flights will be operated with Airbus A319 aircraft until 2016.
At the same time, Atlantic Airways is evaluating three alternatives for a new aircraft type for its NORTH routes to be phased in from spring 2015: Embraer 145, CRJ200, or Bombardier Q400.
Atlantic Airways earlier said a decision on this new aircraft type would be made already by October 2014, with one aircraft to launch the new NORTH timetable by end of March 2015.
This time frame now seems to have been extended by one year.
