Oct 16, 2014 (newstodate): The first Airbus A350 XWB aircraft to enter commercial service with launch customer Qatar Airways lifted off on its virgin flight from Toulouse on October 15, 2014.
The aircraft will next be delivered to Qatar during the first half of December 2014 heralding the fulfillment of the order placed on June 18, 2007, by the carrier for delivery of a total of 80 aircraft.
So far, Airbus has booked orders for 750 aircraft of this type.
Airbus also scored another "first" as the A350 XWB became the first aircraft ever to receive EASA's ETOPS certification before the entry into service of the aircraft.
EASA has thus certified the aircraft to perform ETOPS flights beyond 180 minutes from nearest airport alternative, enabling the aircraft to perform almost all flight operations around the world.
The American FAA still has to complete its evaluation of the aircraft before issuing a similar certification that is now expected to be announced with only few months.
