Oct 28, 2014 (newstodate): Lithuania's new airline, Air Lituanica has been keen to spread data on passenger numbers, flights and liters of coffee served in the air during its first period in the air.
But facts and statistics on its economic and financial performance have been entirely lacking.
According to Lithuanian press, this is now raising debate among politicians who call for answers to a range of questions as to ownership, capital base, financial health and other pertinent issues.
Politicians think that the airline is running with an operational deficit and that the owners is forcing state companies to buy shares and lend money on unknown terms.
The prime mover behind Air Lituanica is the mayor of Vilnius, Arturas Zuokas.
According to the media reports, the Vilnius Municipality and its controlled companies now hold 81.34 per cent of the shares in Air Lituanica.
The municipality-owned investment company Start Vilnius is said to hold 68.73 percent of the shares, Air Lituanica Club comprising more than 40 individuals and entities own another 30.51 percent, and 0.76 percent of the shares are held by the Lithuanian postal subsidiary Baltic Post.
With Gytis Gumuliauskas as its current CEO, Air Lituanica performed its first commercial flight on June 30, 2013, on the route between Vilnius and Brussels.
