Jan 21, 2014 (newstodate): The Italian aviation authority has revoked the AOC of Small Planet Airlines, causing it to suspend all flights as of January 17, 2014.
The carrier operated two Boeing 737-300 aircraft leased from the Lithuanian carrier and ACMI provider Small Planet Airlines.
Despite the similarity in names, the Italian carrier was not a subsidiary of the Lithuanian airlines after a management buy-out in April 2013 of Small Planet Airlines and its Polish subsidiary from its former owner, the Avia Solutions Group that is still part-owner in the Italian carrier.
Consequently, the Italian carrier was actually in the process of re-branding as its financial situation deteriorated to the extent that led to its loss of AOC.
