Jan 24, 2014 (newstodate): Russia's Sibir over-flight charges have again proved a winning chip in negotiating air services agreements with other countries.
As one latest example, Russia and Germany have negotiated a new agreement where Russia's AirBridgeCargo gains 5th freedom rights to fly air cargo between Germany and the USA on scheduled freighter services, while German carriers, in casu Lufthansa Cargo gains rights for more flights over Russian territory and exemption from the requirement to operate between Germany and destinations in Southeast Asia without technical stops at Krasnoyarsk Airport.
Now, ABC may perform up to three weekly rotations with commercial cargo between Germany and USA while Lufthansa may operate up to 21 flights over Siberia.
From June 1, 2009, Russia's Krasnoyarsk Airport became the technical stop-over hub for Lufthansa Cargo's freighter flights to China, replacing Astana, Kazakhstan, after efficient Russian black-mailing over trans-Sibir overflight rights.
