Jan 09, 2014 (newstodate): According to preliminary data on the coming summer schedule, airBaltic will increase capacity on many routes from Riga to Nordic destinations.
Most of these routes are currently served with Dash-8 Q400 aircraft, but Boeing 737 aircraft will increasingly be used on many routes including flights from Riga to Billund and Copenhagen in Denmark, Helsinki and Turku in Finland, Oslo in Norway and Stockholm in Sweden.
Most of the flights to Copenhagen and Helsinki will reportedly thus be operated by Boeing aircraft while the other routes will see a mix of Boeing and Dash-8 aircraft.
In the fleet of airBaltic are eight Boeing 737-300 and five Boeing 737-500 aircraft, all to be replaced by new Bombardier CS300 aircraft ordered by the carrier for delivery from 2015 - if the current deadlines hold after earlier delays in the aircraft project.
airBaltic has placed orders for a total of 10 CS300, with options for a further 10 units, and the airline's CEO, Martin Gauss, last year told newstodate that the company may soon exercise some of these.
