Jan 16, 2014 (newstodate): With the arrival of Atran at Sweden's Malmo Sturup Airport, the Scandinavian market has got a first direct freighter service into Moscow and beyond on ABC's global network.
The carrier has named Kales Airline Services its cargo GSSA in the Nordic markets, with the first flight on January 9, 2014.
-The new customer is certainly attractive as Atran is feeding air cargo into AirBridgeCargo's network via Moscow, says Robert Christensson, Kales VP.
-But without Moscow there would not be a business case for us. In our estimates there is actually much more Scandinavian export cargo to Moscow as a destinations as can be seen from e.g. the CASS statistics.
-We have a blocked-space agreement with Atran, so our challenge is now to seek enough high-yield cargo destined for Moscow and, of course, other ABC destinations to sustain the weekly freighter service operated with Boeing 737-400F aircraft.
-In this respect we consider the new freighter service a Scandinavian venture with potentials in all three markets. Actually, we have already sent Danish export shipments by Atran, and we can truck shipments from all sites in Norway, Denmark and of course Sweden into the Sunday flights from Malmo that is perfectly located as a logistics hub in the region.
-As will often be the case you might see a potential conflict between Atran and other airlines served by Kales, such as Air China Cargo as for shipments to Shanghai and other Asian destinations. But in the end we have the capacity to serve each customer airline with a dedicated set-up and staff, and again Moscow is our prime target in the cooperation with Atran, says Mr Christensson.
