Jan 28, 2014 (newstodate): Sweden's Jonkoping airport saw its international cargo and volumes up by 10 percent in 2013, to a total of 3,190 tonnes.
On the negative side, the airport's volumes of mail dropped almost 50 percent, y-o-y, to 1,198 tonnes due to Post Sweden's decision to end using Jonkoping Airport as a "mini-hub" since 2007 with five weekly night operations between Jonkoping Airport and Gothenburg, Malmoe, Sundsvall, Umeaa and Arlanda by Amapola and West Atlantic.
The airport thus handled a total of 4,388 tonnes, little short of the 5,000 tonnes predicted for the year.
-The main reason for the slight discrepancy was lack of capacity on the routes to Helsinki and Oslo. This has however been remedied by the introduction of the Boeing 737 service by TNT, replacing the earlier BAe 146 freighter since the start of December, says Herman Larsson Jonkoping Airport AB Marketing Manager.
-The next boost to capacity will be the introduction of West Atlantic's ATP freighter on the route to Oslo from February 3, replacing the SAAB 340 operated by Air Estonia.
-Also new from Jonkoping is that Amapola is taking over the postal flights to Stockholm Arlanda, replacing West Air on the route from February 1, 2014, says Mr Larsson.
Since April 10, 2012, TNT has also been cooperating with Farnair operating an ATR 42-300 freighter on behalf of time:matters, carrying shipments from Baden Airpark, the airport serving Karlsruhe in Germany, to Jonkoping Airport and continuing to Billund Airport, in Denmark.
