Jan 17, 2014 (newstodate): New prospects may open up for the Icelandic ACMI cargo carrier Bluebird Cargo with new owners.
After three years of deposition at two Icelandic banks, Bluebird Cargo is now owned by BB Holding, a 50/50 enterprise between the investment group Haru Holding and Steinn Logi Bjornsson, formerly serving as Icelandair SVP Marketing & Sales, and now taking up the position as Chairman of the Board.
-Bluebird Cargo has been doing well and will continue as an independent carrier despite the fact that Haru Holding is also the owner of another major Icelandic ACMI carrier, Air Atlanta. There are certainly no plans for a merger between the two companies, says Mr Bjornsson.
-As working chairman of board I will focus on business strategies and long-term planning aiming at securing sustained profitable operations and identifying new business openings.
-In the fleet of Bluebird Cargo are five Boeing 737 freighter aircraft, and this aircraft type will remain the backbone of the carrier. But we will hopefully be able to expand with new aircraft acquisitions in the future.
-One of our Boeing 737 freighters is operating successfully to and from Iceland while the other aircraft are placed on ACMI contracts. We will certainly like to strengthen the traffic to and from Iceland, finding ways to increase the profitability of these operations, says Mr Bjornsson.
The operations of Bluebird Cargo will remain headed by Skuli Skulasson as managing director.
