Sep 27, 2013 (newstodate): Ukraine is seeing bright prospects for increasing its aviation business with the recent lifting of the country to Category I by FAA.
In the first place, the regained Category I status means that Ukrainian carriers will be allowed to open up new routes from Ukraine to destinations in the USA and Canada, but also to Australia and Japan.
Furthermore, Ukraine is deeply into negotiations with EU over the signing of a Common Aviation Area, and hi-level representatives from the two sides will meet again on October 21-22, 2013, for the eighth round of negotiations to this purpose.
Ukraine's Ministry of Infrastructure estimates that admission to the Common Aviation Area would raise passenger volumes by at least 15-20 percent annually beyond the current total of 14 million passengers now handled at the country's airports.
The negotiations between EU and Ukraine on this issue were started by the end of 2007.
