Sep 27, 2013 (newstodate): The airline alliance SkyTeam is to get a new member from next year: Uzbekistan Airways.
Following an audit by the UK company SkyTrax, Uzbekistan Airways is expected to obtain membership of SkyTeam some time during the first half of 2014.
The complex process was started by the end of 2011, and in September 2012 the Uzbek parliament approved an amendment to the country's legislation allowing for the airline's entry into the airline alliance.
State-owned Uzbekistan Airways operates a fleet of 33 aircraft of western manufacture, including nine Boeing 767-300, six Boeing 757-200, three Airbus A-310, 10 Airbus A320, three Avro RJ85 and two Airbus A300-600F freighter aircraft.
Besides, orders have been placed for delivery of two Boeing 787 aircraft.
