Sep 04, 2013 (newstodate): One more Balkan airport is reportedly soon to be privatized through a tender process to be launched by the end of this year.
The Croatian government is reportedly close to a decision to sell Osijek Airport that has seen its traffic volumes declining and is now only served by Croatia Airlines after Ryanair closed down its operation at Osijek in 2010 after a short-lived success with its route to Frankfurt Hahn from May 6, 2009.
In 2012 the airport, equipped with a 2,500 m runway, handled 22,000 passengers and 180 tonnes of cargo.
The airport comprises a cargo terminal with a 1,720 sq.m. warehouse divided into a customs warehouse, a perishables storage warehouse, and a warehouse sector of 567 sq.m. facilitating packing, palletizing and build/break of containers.
Efforts have been made to build a role for the airport as a cargo hub, but has still not been able to attract carriers.
