Sep 18, 2013 (newstodate): Efforts are again being made for setting up an airline in Macedonia that has been without an own carrier since 2009.
The country's former national carrier MAT Macedonian Airlines went bust folded its wings in 2009, and several attempts including La Luna Airlines, a JV between Croatia's Dubrovnik Airline and Macedonian investors, and Airlift Service all failed.
Now a fresh attempt is reportedly being made by two yet-unknown foreign investors, and according to sources these will probably be found in the Gulf region and may include an existing carrier.
In the meantime, the Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air has been serving as the de-facto national carrier of Macedonia, subsidized by the national government to provide the country with air services.
