Sep 13, 2013 (newstodate): Since January this year, Lithuania's Kaunas Airport has seen practically no air cargo movements.
During the first eight months of this year, the airport has handled a total of only 1,383 tonnes of cargo, a mere 201 tonnes were cargo while air mail shipments accounted for 1,181 tonnes with stable loads around 150 tonnes per week.
January 2013 alone accounted for 184 out of the total of 201 tonnes.
In August 2013, only six kilo of airfreight passed through the airport.
At its height, the airport handled some 10,000 tonnes of air cargo annually, thanks to the influx of ex-China imports for the European and Russian markets transiting at the airport for onward trucking.
The country's capital airport, Tallinn Airport also saw its volumes down 9.6 percent, y-o-y, to 12, 626 tonnes during January-August 2013.
