Sep 18, 2013 (newstodate): Passenger-wise, the Faeroe Islands' Vagar Airport is doing well in 2013.
A total of 166,226 passengers were handled at the airport during the first eight months of this year, an increase by 5.6 percent, y-o-y.
The number of flight operations at the airport was down 14 percent, y-o-y, in the same period, indicating steeply rising load factors on Atlantic Airlines' flights.
The positive trend is, however, less marked in the cargo and mail segments.
During January-August 2013, the airport handled a total of 283 tonnes of cargo, up 3.9 percent, and 118 tonnes of mail dropping 14 percent, y-o-y.
So far the airport has also seen little success from efforts to attract new airlines to the Faroe Islands where the national carrier Atlantic Airways still rules the skies.
