Sep 25, 2013 (newstodate): After the upgrading of Ukraine to Category I by FAA, plans are running high for new North American flights by the country's carriers.
Barred from setting up flights on new routes to the USA since Ukraine's downgrading to Category II in 2005, Ukraine International Airlines is now deep in preparations for launch of the coming new Transatlantic routes.
First to come are probably flights from Kiev to Toronto, in Canada, starting from summer 2014, and preparations for flights to New York are also advancing.
The carrier earlier placed orders for five ex-Air India Boeing 777-200LR aircraft to be delivered in 2015 and already has three Boeing 767-300ER aircraft in its fleet to serve its intercontinental route network, soon to be expanded with the Transatlantic flights.
Ukraine's upgrading to Category I leaves Serbia and Montenegro alone in Europe with Category II-rating.
