Sep 06, 2013 (newstodate): Finnair's cargo volumes in August 2013 were boosted by a significant growth in volumes on freighter operations, up 20.8 percent, y-o-y, to 3,254 tonnes.
By contrast, cargo volumes carried on passenger flights dropped 1.1 percent to 9,885 tonnes, mainly due to a decline in the Asian traffic by 5.1 percent to 7,138 tonnes.
The European traffic grew by 16.1 percent to 1,961 tonnes, and volumes on the N American passenger flights were also up 2.5 percent to 635 tonnes.
In total, Finnair transported 13,139 tonnes of cargo in August 2013, slightly up by 3.5 percent.
In January-August 2013, total volumes were 95,541 tonnes, still down 4.1 percent, y-o-y, with Asia down 4.6 percent to 53,125 tonnes.
Only the European traffic performed well, growing 12.4 percent during the period, to 15,162 tonnes.
