Aug 05, 2013 (newstodate): Effective from September 1, 2013, the SAS Group's handling activities will be corporatized separately in each of the three Scandinavian countries, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
The new organization is established as a step towards the acquisition by Swissport of SAS' ground handling company SGH as announced by the LoI signed by the parties on March 7, 2013.
A new holding company will next be set up to cover the handling companies in the three markets.
Since July 2012, Spirit Air Cargo Handling is part of SAS Ground Handling and no longer a separate, independent SAS Group subsidiary.
Spirit Air Cargo Handling is present at 12 airports throughout Scandinavia including air cargo handling at the terminals in Copenhagen and Billund, Denmark, Malmo, Gothenburg and Stockholm in Sweden, and Oslo, Stavanger, Bergen, Kristiansand, Trondheim, Bodo and Tromso in Norway.
As a next step, the parties intend to set up a JV company (Swissport holding 51 and SAS 49 percent of the shares) to which the business and operations of SAS ground handling including Spirit cargo handling will be transferred.
