Aug 14, 2013 (newstodate): The opening of the new route by Emirates to Stockholm, Sweden, will throw further fresh air cargo capacity into the market.
Starting from September 4, 2013, Emirates will introduce daily flights between Dubai and Stockholm, using Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, which will offer extra 238 tonnes of weekly lower-deck capacity to the market.
Emirates SkyCargo is already operating three weekly Boeing 777 freighter rotations between Gothenburg and Dubai, launched in 2003.
During the first half of 2013, Emirates SkyCargo has flown 4,210 tonnes of cargo out of Sweden, according to CASS statistics.
But during the recent years, Sweden has been in recession and the total export airfreight market has been down some 20 percent.
The new route by Emirates will thus further increase the over-capacity in the market and add more heat under rates that are already at rock-bottom levels.
