Aug 16, 2013 (newstodate): Sweden's air cargo volumes may be recovering in 2013.
At least, the decline during the recent period seems to be softening, according to the latest statistics from Swedavia on airfreight.
During this year's first six months, total cargo volumes at Swedavia's Stockholm Arlanda, Gothenburg Landvetter and Malmo Sturup Airport were down "only" 10.2 percent, y-o-y, compared to the full-year decline by 19 percent, y-o-y, in 2012.
During January-June 2013, volumes handled at Stockholm Arlanda Airport were down 2.8 percent to 61,510 tonnes while dropping 16.8 percent in 2012, to 128,363 tonnes.
In the same period, Gothenburg Landvetter Airport handled 9,606 tonnes of cargo, down 23.3 percent. In 2012 the airport handled 21,202 tonnes, down 28.6 percent.
Malmo Airport saw its volumes down by 4.4 percent to 12,238 tonnes, while down 5.3 percent in 2012, to 25,616 tonnes.
According to Eurostat, Sweden's total volume of air cargo was down 13.9 percent in 2012, to 141,365 tonnes, comprising all of the country's airports.
