Aug 15, 2013 (newstodate): Plans are underway for reconstruction and modernization of Krasnodar International Airport, in southern Russia.
The plans comprise construction of a new passenger terminal, but the most pressing issue is an upgrading of the airport's runway system.
The airport has two runways at 3,000 and 2,200m, respectively, bu they do not meet current international standards and are insufficient to meeting the growing traffic at the airport.
The projects are slated for commissioning by 2017.
In 2012, Krasnodar International Airport handled 5.5 mio passengers compared to 2.5 mio passengers in 2011.
The traffic is generated by more than 30 airlines to 62 destinations, including 17 international airports.
The current handling capacity of the airport's facilities are 500 passengers per hour on domestic flights and 200 passengers on international flights.
