Aug 28, 2013 (newstodate): By the start of this year, Moldova's government launched a tender for ownership of Chisinau International Airport that is currently 100 percent state-owned.
According to industry sources, seven international companies signed up for participation in the tender - but five eventually retreated, including a French, a Spanish, a UK and a US airport company.
According to yet-unconfirmed industry sources, the tender for 49 years of management of Chisinau International Airport is a Russian regional airport holding group Komax, that is also behind Khabarovsk Airport.
Among the immediate obligations facing the new airport managing company will be the reconstruction of the runway, new taxiways, new passenger and cargo terminals, an airport hotel and parking facilities - totaling a package valued around 200 mio euro.
Chisinau International Airport now has one 3,590m concrete runway and handled 1.2 mio passengers and 2,800 tonnes of cargo in 2012.
