Aug 16, 2013 (newstodate): Cargo is new business at Poland's Lodz Airport- but hopes are high for future development.
The airport's cargo department was established only on January 1, 2012, with eight employees and a fleet of modern cargo handling equipment.
In 2012, total volumes handled were around 1,000 tonnes, but the volume handled during the first seven months of this year have reached 1,660 tonnes, with the current focus on road feeder services and handling of ad-hoc cargo charter operations.
This year, the Lodz Airport Cargo Department has signed contracts with Lufthansa Cargo and SAS Cargo, and other airline customers are KLM Cargo, Air France Cargo and Martinair Cargo.
