Aug 05, 2013 (newstodate): Plans are underway for construction of a new international airport close to Azerbaijan's capital, Baku.
To be located in the Alat district some 100 km south of Baku and adjoining the Caspian Sea, the planned airport will be serving primarily international cargo traffic in connection with a new logistics, trade and oil and gas centre being developled in Azerbaijan.
An International Sea Trade Port Complex is also under construction in Alat, and the Greater Baku Regional Development Plan is supported by the World Bank.
