Aug 20, 2013 (newstodate): Airlines are normally not exactly understating their results and performance.
Emirates may be a case proving the opposite!
In a press release warming up to the launch of services by the carrier to Stockholm, Sweden, from September 1, 2013, Emirates SkyCargo is cited for its performance in the Swedish air cargo market by its freighter service into Gothenburg Landvetter Airport since September 13, 2003.
According to the release, Emirates SkyCargo transported a total of 1,600 tonnes of cargo from Sweden in 2012 - which is evidently a very poor performance from three weekly Boeing 777F rotations during a full year!
Further request for information from Emirates' corporate communications in Dubai revealed that the company actually sold 7,261 tonnes of cargo in the Swedish market in 2012.
-There are three major production areas in Sweden - Gothenburg, Malmo and Stockholm. We focused only on Gothenburg in our release since it is the major cargo point in Sweden for SkyCargo, says Rula Tadros, Emirates Public Relations Controller/Corporate Communications.
Which is still close to nonsense.
The fact is that the 1,600 tonnes highlighted in the release is tonnage sold in the local Gothenburg area only, which is only a trifle of the total sales in Sweden that derive from the Stockholm area mainly.
The press release would hardly have passed the scrutiny of Emirates SkyCargo's former boss, Ram Menen's watchful eyes...
