Aug 06, 2013 (newstodate): Cautious optimism reigns at Sweden's Orebro Airport as to developments in cargo volumes in 2013.
-We were slightly behind budgets in volumes during H1, but based on positive signs we expect to catch up in the second half of this year, says Mr Hakan Nilsson, Orebro Airport Cargo Manager.
-Cargo at Orebro Airport is driven by express companies DHL and TNT, both operating five weekly rotations, and we take it a good sign that DHL replaced its Boeing 737 with Boeing 757F from earlier this summer.
-Ad-hoc cargo operations are also going up again, primarily by military operations, but we have also seen a number of commercial freighter operations serving the steel industry and others.
-So all in all, I am optimistic about realizing our goal of handling about 20,000 tonnes of cargo in 2013, says Mr Nilsson.
The decision to expand the airport's currently 2,600m runway by another 700m has also been confirmed, and the airport expects the construction works to start early in 2014.
