Aug 23, 2013 (newstodate): China Southern Airlines is reportedly keen on acquiring Slovenia's Adria Airways that has been put up for sale among 15 other national assets by the Slovenian state.
Slovenian media cites Adria Airways' CEO for confirming the rumor that has long been circulating in the industry, and the Chinese company would also intend to acquire the country's capital airport, Ljubljana Joze Pucnik Airport.
To go through, the deal would have to pass the scrutiny of the political systems on both sides, including also the EU Commission, and this would require tough bargaining.
As just one element in the deal, Adria Airways is member of the Star Alliance, while China Southern Airlines is member of the competing SkyTeam Alliance.
