Jul 22, 2013 (newstodate): Already in August 2013, a new Hungarian carrier is slated for its first commercial operation.
The project to fill a void after the demise of the national carrier Malev, Solyom Hungarian Airways will reportedly start with a six-aircraft fleet, but lofty ambitions are to grow to 25 aircraft by 2014 and 50 aircraft by 2017.
Initially, destinations to be served from Budapest will include European and Middle East airports.
Behind the project are Middle East and national investors, and heading the venture will be Jozsef Vago as CEO.
The carrier's application for its AOC has, however, been delayed as the authorities have refused to expand the company's existing license currently comprising gliders and ultralight aircraft to comprise commercial aircraft as well, requiring the opening of a separate application.
