Jul 31, 2013 (newstodate): After some four years of wrangling, the issue of cargo security at Denmark's Copenhagen Airport has finally found its solution.
Which is - business as before an EU inspection raised allegations of discrepancies with security requirements concerning on-airport transport of cargo by lorries between cargo terminals and aircraft stands.
After a prolonged series of negotiations between Copenhagen Airport's security organization and the Danish Transport Authority, the parties have agreed that the original procedures are actually sufficient to meet security requirements without needs for additional measures except adjustments to staff training schemes.
Since the issue was raised, the airport, cargo handling companies, airlines and authorities have been in constant negotiations over measures to be taken, ranging from specially secured transport vehicles to implementation of TV-monitoring systems along the transport corridors.
In the meantime, the cargo terminals felt forced to come up with own temporary solutions including plastic wrapping of the lorry loads or escorting vehicles to oversee the secure transport between terminal and aircraft at gates and parking stands - in all cases involving extra costs and manpower now proved to be utterly superfluous.
After the final approval by the Danish Transport Agency, the "new" system was implemented by mid-July 2313.
