Jul 26, 2013 (newstodate): In the Baltic context, the road ahead for airlines seems to be taking a step backward..
For the first six months of 2013, Estonian Air thus reports of a drop in passenger volumes by 35 percent, y-o-y, to 275,000 passengers, and a cut by 41 percent, y-o-y, in the volume of flight operations.
Latvia's airBaltic similarly reports a drop in passenger volumes by 4.6 percent, and a decline in flight operations by seven percent, y-o-y, to 22,014.
Estonian says June 2013 was the first month with a return of profitability since 2010, which bodes well for its restructuring process that aims at profitability by 2015.
airBaltic has yet to announce its financial results from H1, which will happen during a press conference at Riga one or two weeks from now.
airBaltic is amidst a similar restructuring process, also aiming at returning to profitable operations by 2014.
