Jul 26, 2013 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic managed to rein in on the volume of flight operations in H1 2013 while passenger volumes decreased at a lower rate.
Thus the carrier cut flights operations by seven percent, y-o-y, during H1 2013, while passenger volumes decreased by "only" 4.6 percent.
Despite this, the load factor during the period actually decreased by four percentage-points in H1 2013, to 68 against 72 in H1 2012.
How come?
-The explanation is that we put our two Boeing 757-200 aircraft into scheduled service on high-density routes during this spring and summer season, and if these larger aircraft seating 200 passengers are not fully booked they produce a gap in the over-all load factor, says Liene Dupate, airBaltic corporate communication officer.
In the fleet of airBaltic are now 25 aircraft including five Boeing 737-500, eight Boeing 737-300 and 12 Bombardier Q400 aircraft, in addition to the two Boeing 757-200.
