Jun 14, 2013 (newstodate): The Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways has taken delivery of its second Airbus A319 aircraft.
The aircraft has been leased from Air Malta on a contract expiring in 2016, and it will be based in Denmark to operate on contracts with Danish tour operators.
The decision to take in a second Airbus A319 aircraft is spurred by a contract with the Danish tour operator Atlantis Rejser taking effect from summer 2013.
Under the contract, Atlantic Airways will operate charter flights for the route operator to leisure destinations, primarily out of Denmark's Billund Airport.
The first A319 aircraft is primarily serving Atlantic Airways' trunk route between the Faroe Islands and Copenhagen Airport, in Denmark, besides a series of seasonal flights from the Faroe Islands to tourist destinations in Europe.
Already by this autumn, Atlantic Airways will add a third Airbus A319 to its fleet, based on a second contract with the Danish tour operator Atlantis Rejser to provide charter capacity, primarily out of Copenhagen, from October 2013.
