Jun 26, 2013 (newstodate): Russia's Sukhoi Superjet 100 remains the country's only new commercial aircraft after the demise of the Soviet Union - and Russia is keen to see it succeed.
The state is therefore again digging deep into its pockets to secure the continued financing of the Superjet 100 project, and has once more allocated means to support the ongoing development of the Superjet 100 including a long-range version as well the projecting of a larger version, the Superjet 130 that will be designed to accommodate up to 130 passengers.
So far, the Superjet 100 aircraft has fetched 234 orders and 107 options, while only 16 aircraft have so far been delivered including 11 to Aeroflot.
As has been the case with most recent aircraft projects, the Superjet 100 has also had its share of teething troubles in the form of one fatal accident and several operational snags haunting its operators.
