Jun 03. 2013 (newstodate): The era with the world's fastest commercial turbojet aircraft SAAB 2000 has ended for the Romanian carrier Carpatair.
The airline has phased out its last remaining SAAB 2000 by the end of May 2013, now operating only two Fokker 100 plus one Boeing 737-400 on a wet-lease contract since March 25, 2012 with LOT Polish Airlines, with Romanian cabin crews.
During the early years of this century, Carpatair became the world's largest operator of the SAAB 2000 aircraft, with 15 units in the fleet at its peak.
Most of the aircraft were operated on lease contracts with the Danish turboprop aircraft lessor, Nordic Aviation Capital.
