Jun 13, 2013 (newstodate): Export of fresh Norwegian salmon to the Chinese market remains hampered by sustained trade obstacles since the Nobel prize award in 2010 to a Chinese dissident.
Anyhow, the Norwegian salmon still finds its way into China - currently via Vietnam as well as Hong Kong.
-We are sending huge volumes, around 3-400 tonnes per week, of fresh salmon to Hanoi, Vietnam, on orders from Chinese importers in Vietnam who then transfer the shipments into China, says Knut Eriksmoen, DB Schenker Norway airfreight manager.
-As we have nothing to do with the onward transportation of the shipments we cannot know which ways the shipments go, but of course there must be a penalty in total transportation times.
-From Norway we have much capacity to Vietnam including flights by Vietnam Airlines, Emirates, Cargolux, and Qatar, so this solution does not create any special problems for us.
-Earlier, Tianjin remained a venue into China, but this window has been closed now. In effect, we ship more Norwegian fresh salmon to China than ever before, says Mr Eriksmoen.
