Jun 03, 2013 (newstodate): The year-long political tug-of-war on the future of the airports infrastructure in Lithuania has seemingly passed a mile-stone.
The government has come to the conclusion that the three state-owned airports of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga will be put under the joint management of a state-owned holding company, with Vilnius Airport as the prime mover.
The discussions have been going on for several years, with many alternative models presented varying from setting up each of the three airports as individual state-owned public liability companies to setting up one plc to own all three airports, aiming at a state sell-off of shares at a later stage as a move towards full privatization.
At this state it remains unclear if future privatization of the airports is still on the agenda.
So far, newstodate has not been able to obtain direct communication on this issue with the country's Ministry of Transport and Communications, since the last election in 2012 headed by Rimantas Sinkevicius.
