Jun 13, 2013 (newstodate): Kazakhstan will commission a refurbished airport by the first quarter of 2014.
Work is progressing on reconstruction of the Taraz International Airport serving the southernmost part of the country.
The renovated airport will have a new passenger terminal, and plans are to extend the existing 2,900m runway by another 600m, allowing for operations by larger commercial aircraft.
Taraz International Airport is currently served only by SCAT with flights to Almaty and Astana, in Kazakhstan, but expectations are that the airport will have new flights to destinations including Moscow, Aktau, Antalya, and Urumqi after the reopening with new facilities.
