Jun 04, 2013 (newstodate): The first scheduled direct air link between Iceland and Russia has now been opened.
Starting from June 1, 2013, Icelandair is offering two weekly rotations on its new route between Keflavik and St Petersburg Pulkovo Airport, using Boeing 757-200 aircraft on the route.
The Seasonal flights will operate till September 17, 2012, allowing Icelandair to probe the potentials in the Russian market for flights to and via Iceland.
Russia's aviation body Rosaviatsia has reportedly designated the Russian carrier Transaero to offer regular flights from Russia to Iceland in the form of a direct route between Moscow and Keflavik.
So far no details are available on whether Transaero will actually exercise this right, or when this service might be offered.
