Jun 10, 2013 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport is still seeing its cargo volumes rising, as seen from the May 2013 statistics.
A total of 4,034 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, an increase by 16 percent, y-o-y.
For January-May 2013, the volumes were 15,100 tonnes, up 7.6 percent, y-o-y.
The sustained growth in volumes started in April 2012 when freighter flights by US carriers National Air Cargo and Kalitta Air were launched to fly supplies from Riga to the ISAF forces in Afghanistan, with up to three daily Boeing 747-400F flights on the route.
