Jun 13, 2013 (newstodate): Russia has proposed that air service serving the Barents Sea region receive state subventions.
A case in point is the route connecting Arkhangelsk and Murmansk in Russia with Tromso, in Norway.
The route is now served by Nordavia, albeit with dwindling revenues.
Financial subvention from the Barents/Euro-Arctic Council would secure regular flights on the route that is crucial to the region.
Plans for adding flights to Oulu, in Finland, will also be presented at the forthcoming Barents/Euro-Arctic Council meeting in Norway, sources say.
