Jun 07, 2013 (newstodate): Armenia is to gradually liberalize its aviation business, opening up for more opportunities for its remaining airlines.
The government will start by dividing its future airline business into three segments - the CIS, Europe and the Middle East.
Efforts will then be invested in allocating one domestic carrier in each segment allowing them to develop new traffic to increase international air transport options for the Armenian market.
All carriers will, however, have rights also to operate flights to Moscow, and all concessions will run for five years, allowing the companies to consolidate themselves within their segments.
The new system comes in the aftermath of the demise of Armavia from the start of this year, leaving a temporary void in the country's provision of air services.
