Jun 18, 2013 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic is seeing positive effects from its restructuring of the route network and frequencies, measured in passenger turnout.
A total of 268,892 passenger were carrier in May 2013 - down 0.8 percent, y-o-y, while the number of flight operations was 4,279, a decrease by 6.5 percent.
The carrier thus transported an almost unchanged number of passengers on fewer flights which drove the load factor in May 2013 up by one percent, to 71 percent.
For summer 2013, airBaltic has introduced six new destinations - Prague, Heviz-Balaton, Olbia, Rijeka, Larnaca, and Malta.
The picture is, however, somewhat less rosy for the period January-May 2013 when airBaltic transported a total of 1,043,315 passengers on 17,854 flights.
During this period the volume of passengers dropped 6.2 percent, y-o-y, while the number of flight operations was down by 7.9 percent, and while the load factor was 70 percent during the period in 2012, it dropped to 66 percent in January-May 2013.
The monthly statistics provided by airBaltic do not, however, contain information on yields or revenues.
