May 23, 2013 (newstodate): Last year did not bring fresh recovery to Slovakia's Bratislava Milan Rastislav Stefanik Airport.
For the fourth year running, passenger volumes dropped at the airport, down in 2012 by 11 percent, y-o-y, to 1.42 mio passengers.
Air cargo volumes fared comparatively better with an increase by 10 percent, y-o-y, to 22,577 tonnes in 2012.
The bulk of the air cargo is carried by DHL Express, since 2008 operating to and from the hub in Leipzig after stopping its freighter services at close-by Vienna Airport.
Only six airlines were operating at the airport in 2012, offering connections to 28 destination by direct non-stop flights.
Ryanair topped the list in 2012, albeit down by 13 percent to 875,000 passengers, while the Czech carrier Travel Service transported 291,000 passengers in 2012, down also 7.8 percent.
Bratislava M. R. Stefanik Airport has the capacity of handling up to five million passengers, but expects to handle a roughly unchanged volume of passengers in 2013.
