May 17, 2013 (newstodate): Encouraging Q1 2013-results leave the Latvian carrier airBaltic optimistic about reaching its longer-term targets and regaining profitability by 2014.
Beating its own plan, airBaltic improved its net result by 6.7 million Latvian currency in the first quarter of 2013, compared to the same period a year ago, and following on the positive consolidation of its net result in 2012 as well.
airBaltic improved its Q1 net result by 41 percent, y-o-y, and achieved a 10 percent yield improvement in the first quarter of 2013.
The revenue per available seat kilometer improved by eight percent in the January to March period, compared to the same period a year ago.
The over-all load factor was down seven percentage-points to 63 percent during Q1 2013, where the volume of flights was down by nine percent after the trimming of the route network, while the volume of passengers was down 9.3 percent, y-o-y, to 534,879 passengers.
In short: less flights, correspondingly less passengers, but better earnings due to better rates and efficient cost savings.
