May 14, 2013 (newstodate): Helsinki will soon see a fresh provider of air services between Helsinki and Russia.
Following on the current efforts to break the air service monopoly of Aeroflot, the Russian Ministry of Transport has transferred some traffic rights so far enjoyed by Aeroflot to S7 Siberia Airlines as first designated carriers.
S7 will thus become the second designated Russian carrier on the route between Moscow and Helsinki.
Aeroflot and Finnair are currently performing 14 weekly flights on the route, and S7 will now be allowed to introduce seven weekly flights between the two points.
Another Russian carrier, Orenburg Airlines has similarly been granted rights to launch flights from Sochi to Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm, as well as to London, Hanover, Madrid, Amsterdam, Bratislava and Zurich.
S7 has also been granted rights to to operate 14 weekly flights between Moscow and Warsaw as well as seven weekly flights between Moscow and Krakow, formerly only served by Aeroflot and LOT.
